As a member of the Business Platform for Multilingualism, Maryrose attended a Conference organised by the Polish Presidency of the (Education) Council of the European Union entitled “Multilingual Competences for Professional and Social Success in Europe” which was held at the Kazimierzowski Palace in Warsaw Poland. Among the lecture was one entitled “Linguistic Competences and the Development of Modern European Society” by Prof. Wolfgang Mackiewicz, President of the European Language Council.
On the second day Maryrose attended a working lunch held at the beautifully restored Central Agricultural Library of Michał Oczapowski to discuss the European Commission’s new initiative targeting small and medium sized companies: Languages mean business. Mr Jan Truszczyński, Director General for Education and Culture, was the guest of honour and introduced the initiative against the background of the European Commission’s Europe 2020 strategy for growth and jobs.
A panel of experienced practitioners commented and gave their own personal assessment of the importance of languages and cultural competences for success in business. The discussion was moderated by Sabina Klimek, a journalist working for the Polish television and herself an author of several publications for and about small and medium-sized companies.
