A second meeting of our EuropeAid project that focuses on valorising the role of women in the mass media that is around us, and also in the voice that women have on issues that are of particular interest to them was held in Marseille. Kerry Freeman, Anna Maria Darmanin and Giuseppina Nardo’ participated in the meeting, bringing to the table several proposals and ideas on the actions that will be implemented within the lifetime of the project. One of the most important is a valuable training opportunity for Maltese young women who would like to become video journalists. They can join other women from Italy, France, Morocco and Lebanon to form an all-women news agency on Euromediterranean issues.
The call is currently open to women who live in Malta (no need for Maltese nationality, only residence) between 20 and 35 years of age and with a good knowledge of media or communications. The four women who will be chosen will have an all-expenses paid 3-week trip to Marseille in 2011 where they will be trained by experts, and then a follow-up 6 weeks course here in Malta where they will be joined by 16 women from the other participating countries. At the end of the project, the women who succesfully complete the course will be given the opportunity to form part of this news agency.
